If I were a member of Congress, I would most likely approve military intervention in Syria, but I am aware of the controversial consequences. I believe that the occurring events in Syria have to be stopped in terms of humanity, but the resulting consequences will result in a higher risk for economic instability within the government, possible threats from Russia, and citizens that will be unsupportive of the government and its administration. The President has used public addresses to attempt to get his point across the nation and congress, but in order to conceive the best decision possible congress needs to argue and come to terms on a radical solution. Due to the unsettling fact that congress is just now returning to Washington after vacation, Obama speak his voice to get a decision or compromise as soon as possible. I believe that President Obama’s appeal to congress will be one much greater than to the people of our nation. I say this because congress wants to compromise on a decision to manage the crisis in Syria. However, the citizens of the United States are only biased to their own personal opinions. In this way, factions will break out whatever decision made dealing with Syria and support for our national government will decline. I believe military action now has to be taken against the Assad regime. When President Obama threatened the use of chemical weapons in 2012, he said that the punishment would go unsaid. We are now in September of 2013, and the use of chemical weapons is in question. Military action has to be taken to justify Obama’s statements. Many believe if no action is taken America will look “soft.” No matter the outcome Syria will be stained to President Obama’s Presidency.
